Week 1 2006 Season at South Pole
- Departure terminal at the CDC.

- Check in and screening area at the departure terminal.

- The best photo I coould get of the C-17 we flew in on.

- We were told to relax and spread out. These people didn't need much encouragement.

- This gives yu a feel for the size of a C-17. They are about as big as a 747, but more open. The seats are on cargo pallets and can be easily removed for cargo and still have seating along the sides.

- A queue forming to use the facilities.

- The dreaded hill to building 140.

- People bag dragging up the hill.

- Ski equiped Hercules which will fly missions to South Pole later in the day. Out aircraft is in the fueling bay.

- The loadie told us this particular LC-130, "Spirit of Freedom", was one of the oldest ski equiped Hercs in operation.

- On a crowded flight there would be an addition set of seats down the center of the aircraft for 4 rows of PAX. You would be packed so tight your knees would interleave. Obviously a less crowded flight such as this is much more desirable.

- The top edge of the massive Beardmore Glacier.

- A mountain which had wonderful surface texture from the way snow had settled on it.
