This voyage explored almost the entire coast of AAT and Terre Adelie, visiting Mirny, Dumont d'Urville, Heard Island and Iles Kerguelen. Antarctica's first continuous automatic weather stations were erected and deployed on Lewis and Chick Islands. A landing was made at the Larsemann Hills on 7 February. Aerial reconnaissance continued. It was noted that the ice and snow cover on Heard Island were far less than previously observed.
