TITLE:
DESCRIPTION: Auden "Ollie" Ommundsen with one of the sled dog pups, Wilkes Station, Antarctica, 1958. Wilkes was one of seven U.S. research stations built for the International Geophysical Year (IGY), 1957-1958. The Antarctic Conservation Act of 1978 banned the introduction of non-native animals to the area south of 60 degrees South, thus dogs are no longer present in Antarctica.
